Starting Invetory

My inventory prior to the date doesn't count. I get to use all of those products with documentation.
Items I currently have of note:
  • Bulk Loose leaf teas: Currently have ~1/2 # Earl Grey, ~1# Herbal Cranberry Orange , 1# African Rooibos and assorted bagged teas.
  • 2# coffee
  • Spices
  • Lentils red and green, other dried legumes
  • 3 quarts chicken broth and a whole poached chicken less a leg and thigh
  • Cauliflower, Brussels Sprouts, String Beans
  • 3# brown rice and other assorted rices in small quantities

Day 1 Grocery Shopping

Grocery Shopping:

4 Limes
5# flour
Eggs
Bananas
Black Beans
Garlic
Yeast
1# Carrots
Dish Soap (not sure if covered)

So it starts....

This is the start of my experiment. For 2 months I will try to live on a food budget of $34.50 per week-- the amount a single person on food stamps receives as benefits. I will document all purchases, most meals, challenges, and even share recipes here in this blog.

The project stems,in part, out of a long running general curiosity about the food stamp system (if that is even the proper terminology) and also as a voluntary additional component of a research assignment for a class I'm enrolled in studying work-life policy.

Thanks for reading and wish me luck!!
